Ymir Report #26 — Small changes continued

Heya friend!

Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building.

INTRO

Quiet cycle. Just been continuing to do small changes across various parts of the platform. So nothing major to announce on that front.

For marketing week, I published the article I'd been working on. I also did a bunch more videos.

I'm debating doing a larger development cycle. I'll talk about it a bit more throughout the report.

PRODUCT

You can always view the history of Ymir's product development at https://ymirapp.com/changelog.

This cycle, I focused on doing changes to the plugin and PHP runtime. I haven't wrapped up work on the plugin yet. That's the first thing I'll focus on this week.

I created a small road map of things I want to wrap up. At the end, I have a note to start the next new big feature. If I get to it, I might start and just work on it until it's done.

Like I mentioned before, I struggle with those larger features and this two-week cycle. But I think I might be able to make it work by restructuring my marketing week a bit.

MARKETING

I had two goals for this week. I wanted to publish my next Ymir blog article. I also wanted to make more videos. I managed to do both!

First, there was an article on being a WordPress sysadmin.

An honest conversation about being a WordPress sysadmin >>

It did quite well on social media, so happy with that! Then I did a bunch of YouTube videos:

I started linking to these videos from the Ymir documentation as well. So I think they're a good time investment on my part. I also enjoy making them which helps even if they're not the most effective.

Videos is how I think I can pull off large development cycles. If I just do videos and share progress as I'm building these larger features, it might just be good enough. So that's what I think I'll try to do.

BUSINESS

You can always view Ymir's up-to-date business metrics at ymirapp.com/open. They're updated every 10 minutes.

I'm up to 22 subscribers! I've had a lot of trials this month. I still have 5 active trials.

I'm pretty sure at least one of these will convert. Three of them started the trial and then cancelled right away. Those never converted so far.

I was talking with a friend who asked about conversion. Overall, Ymir has a very good trial conversion. I don't calculate it, but I'd say over 50%. It's almost 100% if they don't cancel right away. I assume this will get worse as the volume of trials goes up.

I'm starting to feel a bit better about Ymir's chances of success. I'm still far from the 100 or so subscribers I need to be fully sustainable for me. I also can't help but worry the whole thing will collapse at any moment. I think most people in business have that feeling though.
