Ymir Report #51 ā€” Consulting break

Heya friend!

Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that Iā€™m building.

INTRO

Heya! I'm now an old man as I turned 40 last week šŸ‘“šŸ»

I've spent most of this cycle doing consulting to give myself some financial headroom. I started working on a few small things and fixed some bugs. But overall, I didn't spend a ton of time on Ymir.

That said, there are still a few things to talk about!

PRODUCT

You can always view the history of Ymir's product development at https://ymirapp.com/changelog.

On the product front, I'm working on adding support for arm64 processors. I have a branch of the runtime that I'm working on. I believe I'm largely done on that front as I've been able to build all the images for both the x86 and arm architectures.

What's exciting about this is that using arm is both faster and cheaper than using Lambda with x86. Unofficial benchmarks show that your code can run as much as 20% faster. But to top it off, AWS also charges you 20% less to use arm processors. So it's a compounding benefit!

I'm hoping to finish support for arm processors this month.

MARKETING

Started working on an article with the help of ChatGPT. It's targeting agency CTOs. I didn't get to work too much on it, but I'm happy with the direction it's taking.

BUSINESS

You can always view Ymir's up-to-date business metrics at ymirapp.com/open. They're updated every 10 minutes.

Lots of movement this month. I've had a lot of trials. I have some cancellations and one card retrying. So I might still end up with a net gain of one customer. But it's still good to see a lot of trials and activity.

I've had a new potential partnership or Carl-as-a-Service opportunity come up. It's moving pretty fast right now, so we'll see where it goes. I think Ymir is a perfect fit for them.

AWS is also doing a lunch and learn this week where they will show off/demo Ymir to between 30-70 attendees. So that's also something new and exciting. I had no idea I was on their radar.

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that Iā€™m building. INTRO Heya! It's been a little while since the last report. December was super busy and then I had some unfortunate events during the holiday and in January which delayed a lot of stuff. I'm still not done writing my year in review because of them šŸ«£šŸ˜… There's actually been quite a bit of work done on the product since the last update. The biggest new feature is PHP...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that Iā€™m building. INTRO I hope everyone in the USA had a great Thanksgiving! šŸ¦ƒ Well, if October was busy, November was even more so! I had a lot of contract work. I was also lucky that some clients postponed some of it until this month or next year. One difference with October is that some of my consulting work was Ymir related! This allowed me to get some bug fixes in, as well as...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that Iā€™m building. INTRO It's been a busy October for me on the consulting front. Lots of contracts and I have some new ones starting next month as well. I wish I had some time to dedicate to Ymir, but I have to prioritize that work. Especially since 2024 was a slower year for me and Ymir's business shrunk. I figured this was a good time to do some writing on the current WP...
