Ymir Report #53 — Arm architecture support 🚀

Heya friend!

Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building.

INTRO

I'm happy to announce that I've finished the Arm powered runtimes! 🥳 Switching to Arm can boost your performance by up to 20%. Meanwhile, it also costs 20% less to run your WordPress with it. There's no reason not to use it as far as I know. I'll be making it the default soon.

I’ve also published the marketing article I wrote with ChatGPT. I find it ok for content that I don’t know that well. Can’t say I’d use it to write technical articles.

On the business side, May was one of my best months since I started! I'm heading to Greece for WordCamp Europe. I'm keeping my expectations to a minimum since WordCamp Asia didn't lead to that much in the end.

I'll be staying in Greece for most of June to work from there. But with WordCamp Europe, there might be some delay before the next report.

PRODUCT

I finally got the build process for the runtimes to work thanks to Depot. They really saved my bacon for that. That's what allowed me to finish the Arm support. There are some improvements I want to do to the entire build process, but it's good enough for now.

I spent a good amount of time doing some bug fixes and improvements to the CLI. I have low hanging fruits on the Ymir Laravel application side that I want to tackle next.

MARKETING

As I said, I finished my article for agencies that I wrote with ChatGPT.

Why WordPress Agencies Should Pay Attention to Serverless >>

I found the entire process ok. Especially compared to when I use ChatGPT for coding where it's just amazing. Maybe I have to keep practicing with it.

It's hard to get it to sound interesting. But also I'm not used to writing to agency owners or CTOs. So that could be the issue.

Anyhow, let me know what you think!

BUSINESS

You can always view Ymir's up-to-date business metrics at ymirapp.com/open. They're updated every 10 minutes.

May was an amazing month. I added a net four subscribers! Really felt like the business had some wind behind it. In fact, I looked up for fun how many active subscribers deployed a project in the last week and it was 33% which is awesome!

Alas, this doesn't look like a new trend. June isn't looking good. There aren't many trials right now. There's still a week left for people to start trials that end in June. But, as things stand, I'll be happy if I have a flat month.

WordCamp Europe is this week. Looking forward to catching up with everyone. I might have an announcement around that time. It depends on what I can get done in the next few days before heading off.

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO I'm back from 2 months of pretty intense travelling. If we add the other life events that I discussed in the previous report, it's been quite busy for me personally. I worked on Ymir some, but I didn't have the time to sit down to write my report. That said, there's a good chance I'm done travelling for the year. I was just at WCEU, but I don't plan on going...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO It's been a longer than I'd liked since the last update. Unfortunately, I had someone close to me pass away two weeks ago. They were in their 30s, and it was unexpected. I'll talk more about it when I do my year in review. I spent a lot of time the past two weeks with their family. The time I had left, I used to work for consulting clients. So there hasn't...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO So I'm back from CloudFest. I'm really happy with the experience overall. I'm not sure if it'll be worth it financially. That said, I'll definitely go back for the hackathon at the very least. The hackathon was such a great experience. It was my first one, and I was so blown away by it. Joost did a small write up on it that I found great. From a business...
