Ymir Report #63 — WordCamp Tokyo. Maintenance work continues.

Heya friend!

Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building.

INTRO

It was WordCamp Tokyo last weekend. It was a lot of fun to see the Japanese WordPress community. (Even if I don't speak Japanese šŸ˜…) It was really draining. I wasn't quite ready for that much social after my burnout. (I slept 10h last night 🤣)

I've been continuing to do maintenance work on the application. I have a few things going on at once. It's been pretty cathartic to just do some cleanup and upgrades.

Business is stable. Looks like flat growth for the month.

PRODUCT

You can always view the history of Ymir's product development at https://ymirapp.com/changelog.

I've been continuing to do maintenance work for Ymir. On the application side, I'm slowly adding detailed logging to the application. This is thanks to a customer who finally found a logging service that works well with Lambda. It's called Axiom.

Once I'm done with work on the Laravel side, I'll be working on adding support for it with Ymir projects. This mainly means writing a guide and doing small changes to the application to make it easier to use. I'm excited as the lack of a good logging solution has been one of the major downsides of serverless.

I'm also doing code upgrades. For example, I started to use PHP 8.2 features. I also started upgrading my code to pass phpstan level 6. (I think I had almost 1000 issues when I started 🤣) Thel long-term goal is to get the code to pass the max level.

I'm also working on creating and automating changelogs for the Ymir open source projects. I'm trying release-please, but it's not perfect. If you use another library, let me know.

MARKETING

I should maybe rename this business development since it makes less and less sense to do traditional SaaS marketing. šŸ˜… I had some good meetings for partnerships. I also had some good discussions with an agency at WordCamp Tokyo.

BUSINESS

You can always view Ymir's up-to-date business metrics at ymirapp.com/open. They're updated every 10 minutes.

As I said, this month should be flat. I have one trial so nothing amazing.

I had some interesting discussions at WordCamp Tokyo where someone was like I should add zeroes to all the prices and forget the personal plan. I really don't want to do that. I feel I'm giving up on making the product financially accessible.

However, I agree the pricing still needs work. I'm not actually sure the agency tier makes sense. I'm thinking most agencies will have their clients buy individual license.

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Slowly getting back into the groove of things. I'm not working as hard as before the burnout. I still have days where I work for an hour and that fries my brain. I still get the itch to work on the product though! So I've been just doing smaller chunks of work. That still lets me ship things like PostgreSQL support! PRODUCT You can always view the history of...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. This isn't the hundredth report I was planning to write. I wrote my previous report so sure I was close to the finish line of moving off Vapor. I was so happy that I'd nail the timing. The title wrote itself, "Ymir Report #100 — Ymir on Ymir". (That's a lot of "Ymir" in the same sentence! 🤣) But life is nothing but full of irony. The day after I sent that report, my...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Been a little while since the last report! Unfortunately, not much has happened since the last update. I got a pretty nasty cold that knocked me out for more than a week. I then had to shift to consulting work to pay my bills. šŸ˜… Following the consulting work, I flew out to Phoenix for PressConf. I'll talk more about it later. But Raquel created an exceptional...
