Ymir Report #97 — Five years in public

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. On February 19th, 2021, I wrote the first Ymir report. I had in mind that I'd try to do a report on February 19th to celebrate the five-year milestone. As you can see, I wasn't able to do it. šŸ™ƒ The reason was that I wrapped up my gigantic 14,000 word year in review two days before. I was and still am quite drained from the endeavour. 2025 was an eventful year for me...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO I've been hard at work trying to wrap up Laravel support. I'm close enough that I can start talking about it and marketing it. (Yes, marketing! 🤣) I started a waitlist so that I can contact anyone who's interested when it's shipped in beta. My goal is to migrate Ymir in March if all goes well. PRODUCT You can always view the history of Ymir's product...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO The march towards Laravel support continues apace! I'm happy to say that I wrapped up the rewrite of the CLI and released version 2.0. This was a massive amount of work. I could only do it this fast with the help of AI.I've now shifted back to consulting. The next sprint is going to be focused on getting Laravel support officially into beta. 🄳 PRODUCT You can...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Happy New Year! I hope you had a good holiday. Mine was spent working non-stop as I mentioned last update. (My body did not give out! šŸ˜…) I spent the holidays doing consulting work. I just switched back to working on Ymir mid-week last week. That said, I've already shipped a lot of stuff! šŸ“¦šŸš€ The reason is that I'm slowly ramping up my use of AI. I've been using...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Happy holidays in advance! Although maybe you're already off if so, I hope you're enjoying yourself already! No holidays planned here. I don't plan on stopping at all unless my body gives out, which isn't out of the question 🤣 I've wrapped the logging changes I mentioned in the last report! It took a bit longer than I expected because I tackled some tech debt...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO It would be a great story if I told you that now that this deal with BuiltFast changed my fortunes overnight! I never expected it to. So we're back to our regularly scheduled programming! 🤣 The months of negotiations were quite draining for me. I've spent some time trying to rest. But I've also had to do a lot of consulting work since that's still what pays my...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. I licensed Ymir to a hosting company. These aren't words I would've ever expected to write a few months ago. It still doesn't feel real to me, if I'm honest. It doesn't matter that there's an actual press release. Or that there's a picture of me at CloudFest USA showing a new serverless ecosystem that didn't even exist two weeks ago. I keep thinking of the Hemingway...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Looks like we're on more of a monthly cadence still šŸ˜… This is going to be a shorter update. October was busy, but I can't talk about it yet. I'll have a longer report after CloudFest USA. Because I was so busy with other things, I didn't get to work on Ymir itself much. That said, I did some really good marketing at WordCamp Canada! šŸ’Ŗ I was pretty exhausted...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO So September has come and gone! It's been really busy, but not in a publicly visible way. There isn't much I can share or talk about yet so this will be a shorter update. For example, I'm working very hard on the Ymir CLI. But unfortunately, the technical debt there has really caught up to me. So a lot of the work is still ongoing, I'll talk about it a bit...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Fall is almost here! August has been super busy with a lot of work going on behind the scenes. I'm happy to say that Ymir now supports SQS queues. 🄳 The feature is live and documented in the configuration reference and change log. There isn't much else to do with it for now. I'm not adding SQS support for WordPress yet, so this is really for Laravel support....
